Tirtanadi Water Tower, Tourism and History Icon Medan City Indonesia

Medan is one of the cities visited by many domestic and foreign tourists. This is because now more and more tourist attractions in Medan.
One of them is a relic of colonial era in Medan that is Tirtanadi Water Tower. Water Tower Tirtanadi precisely located on Jl. Sisingamangaraja No. 1, Medan. In the past, this tourist attraction had become an icon of Medan. Now, Water Tower Tirtanadi has become a tourist attraction with historical value owned.
The building was founded in 1908, by the Dutch government, as a water reservoir for the people of Medan. Previously, the Tower Tirtanadi function to meet the needs of clean water almost for the entire community of Medan. However, due to the rapid development, the Tirtanadi Water Tower has been unable to supply the increasingly widespread water needs.
Construction of this tower is also not separated from the construction of water companies owned by the Dutch colonial government, with the name of NV. Water Leiding Maatschappij Ajer Beresih, based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Maybe now you often hear the term 'tap water' and 'clean water', the two terms above are derived from the Dutch, leiding and ajer beresih.
The location of this building is very strategic because it is in a meeting street between Jl. Hj. Ani Idrus - Jl. Cirebon - Jl. Pandu - Jl. Sisingamaraja.
Currently Tirtanadi Water Tower has become a tourist attraction. But still a water reservoir as well. Not infrequently visitors came to take pictures with the building as high as 42 meters and has a load of 330 tons. Now this water tower condition is actually still well maintained. Unfortunately, a very strategic location that eventually made the historic building is now squeezed by other buildings that began to meet the surrounding towers.
